High buck power converter Inductor heating up only from Mains from one power company, not from another

Posted by: Joel W Goldwein on

Hello friends.  The inductor (L3) on an LNK3207-based high side buck power converter (120VAC to 5 VDC) using an LNK3207D is getting very hot when I attach the converter to mains at Atlantic City Electric, but it is not getting so hot at all hot when I attach to mains at PECO. What is happening and what do I need to do to correct?   Schematic attached.

Thanks all for your help from a retired physician electronics "newbie" who probably should not have quit his day job :-) .

Hi Joel W Goldwein,

Have you measured the mains voltage in each building? Higher input voltage would result to hotter L3.

Can you also send your input and output specs, as well as the mfg part number of L3?
