Presumable TNY278PN: please help to identify decapitated chip, at least its product family...

Posted by: schabanow on

So I have to repair an ac/dc adapter utilises a TNY278PN chip, but the problem is it's decapitated (exploded), and the title part of its case has been lost. But the man who teardowned the device, just after incident, SAW that now missed part of the case, and put all symbols down on a paper as "TNY278PN". I've got new one from local vendor, but was quite surprised for the layout of high-voltage pin of this "new one 278" is another as to "original 278" : "new 278" hi-voltage pin is 4 (four), but the "original 278" is 5 (five)... So I'm quite embarrassed now. What should I do next? No title part. No that man. Not even that piece of paper... ??

The one from the local vendor is probably a part from some other manufacturer that has been sanded off and re-marked as a PI part (a sadly common practice). I would suggest buying a part from a legitimate distributor.
