PI Webinar - Optimizing Single and Multi-Port USB PD 3.1 Power Supplies Using ZVS Flyback
2024 February 21, 11:00 - 12:00 (America/Los Angeles)

Explore the cutting-edge synergy of Zero-Voltage Switching, GaN switch technology, and advanced SR FET control in power adapter design, achieving efficiency beyond 95%, eliminating heatsinks and potting materials, and simplifying development to meet USB PD 3.1 EPR and UFCS charging standards while unlocking growth opportunities in high-power USB PD adapters and embedded Type-C power ports.

Duration: 1 hour

Summary

There is relentless pressure to reduce the size of power adapters. Aftermarket equipment makers are demanding higher efficiency and IC designers are responding by providing new products with Zero-Voltage Switching (ZVS) and advanced SR FET control married to GaN switch technology. We will describe how cost-effective designs with efficiency exceeding 95% allow designers to eliminate heatsinks, spreaders, and potting materials while reducing part count, further reducing size, component cost and manufacturing complexity. We will also explore how integration of the switch and controller, isolated feedback and secondary controller with an I2C interface simplifies development and ensures solutions meet the demanding requirements of USB PD 3.1 Extended Power Range (EPR) and UFCS charging standards for worldwide applications.
