RDR-747 not powering up on load

Posted by: Raj Shahu on

Hello,

We are working with the eval board of RDR-747.

- At no load it gives expected 20V output. From there after, gradually increasing the load upto full load works fine.

- Then while powering it up at Light Load(or any load) it gives 0V output.

- Again powering it back at no load gives 20V output.

Why is the EVM showing such behavior?

What is causing it?

Regards,

Hi Raj

Thanks for your question. Can you please share the input voltage being applied and the type of load used (CR or CC mode).

Is it possible to share Primary Drain-Source voltage, BPP, BPS and Vout voltage waveforms for the Startup condition where you are experiencing the issue?

Hello,

Thanks for the response.

Actually I was testing the board in 'Constant Power Mode' (CP). Here while powering on load it gives 0V output.

Also, while powering it in CC and CR mode it works fine for all the load as expected.

Could you provide the reason behind this behavior of board? Why the function is different for different  mode of loading?

Hi Raj

This is most likely due to the dynamics of the CP mode of E-load used. During Startup, when Vout starts building up, initially from 0V, the E-load would try to draw constant power (=Vout*Iload). As Vout is low during startup, current drawn is likely to be huge to maintain constant power. So, this might be leading to the behavior you had reported.

Understood, Thanks for the explanation.
